I don't know if this volition work for diesel fuel or not, but I put down kitty litter when oil gets on our driveway. I but put downward enought to cover the spot and grind information technology in with my foot, making a powder. Sweep it off and the spot disappears. If might be worth a try. I don't know what to tell y'all about the aroma. Good luck.

Question: Cleaning Diesel fuel on Physical?

January xx, 2005

I clean gas station islands that have diesel fuel that spills on the concrete. The concrete cleaners from your local hardware stores do not work. Is at that place anything that will accept diesel fuel off hands?

At Abode Depot you tin get a production called Krud Kutter. Information technology takes grease out of everything but I've never tried it on physical. Painters use it for clean up and spills. You might endeavor it - it's highly full-bodied and I use if full strength all the fourth dimension.

It's wonderful stuff. Someone once told me that Pert shampoo would take oil stains out of physical equally well.

I would endeavor a ane two punch of letting a cheap kitty litter sit on the stain for a few days AND run a fan (if this is possible) in an open window in or the near the room.

The flim-flam with the fan is you don't want to experience the air bravado INTO the room, you want it in the reverse fashion (backward so to speak) then the air is being sucked OUT of the room.

If that is not possible to do this through an open window, skip this stride as you don't want to pull the smell into some other part of the house, information technology will defeat the purpose.

Dorsum to the kitty litter...later on a few days sweep it up and run across how the room smells. You may need to repeat a few times until it wicks the stuff upward and the smell goes with it.

Skilful luck! Be safe and avoid using harsh chemicals. Yous don't want to risk anything that could cause a burn!

Just to be safe: You do not state how large a spill yous have and since this is in a confined space/basement; I would highly recommend y'all contact the fire station in this area and enquire their communication. It seems they would be willing to tell you if any procedures or products recommended would/could be dangerous. They may even have some suggestions of their own.

  • I am non familiar with #2 heating oil/diesel but I believe cleaning away this production/aroma in a basement will be an ongoing projection; at to the lowest degree for a while.
  • Cleaning gasoline from physical is a challenge but tin unremarkably be successful with using true cat-litter (equally suggested) and then using laundry soap powder with a little water, mixed into a past and left overnight to "draw" out the gasoline. But, fifty-fifty that may accept more than one fourth dimension.
  • I'1000 non certain this would be prophylactic in a basement only here is something similar on a web site that might work for diesel:
  • "Combine hot water, ammonia, washing soda and vinegar in a clean empty gallon milk jug. Shake the jug and then use information technology to clean the surface where the diesel was spilled. This volition make clean the area as well every bit eliminate any odors."
  • My son uses Zep concrete cleaner and it does a good job but never used indoors or on diesel fuel spills.
  • I did see something at Dwelling Depot and a local automobile parts shop that both places highly recommend (for what that is worth?). Products chosen Floor Dry out and Olfactory property Gone. Both products state clean and remove stains and odor.
  • Safety seems to exist a big factor to me so I would hope you lot would bank check it out as fumes can be dangerous and many things (peculiarly in a bars area) mixed with any kind of fuel can become a dangerous explosive.

Circumspection: Muriatic acrid should never exist used on concrete (can exist dangerous stuff besides information technology will damage physical).
